Close to the Land – Cabin stays supporting farmers and nature

In the Dutch countryside, Cabiner Harvest tells a different kind of travel story. Instead of escaping the land, it brings people closer to it. Guests stay in small, stylish cabins placed on farms that are restoring their soil and bringing nature back. It’s a quiet stay, but it has a clear purpose.

One of the first stays is at Erve Kiekebos in Gelderland. Here, mornings begin at the edge of a food forest. Travellers look out over flowering fields, buzzing insects, herb-rich pastures and a market garden. The cabin is designed to feel light and simple, with comfort that doesn’t take over the landscape.

Food is part of the experience. Each cabin is stocked with seasonal produce harvested from the farm, as well as products from nearby organic and like-minded producers. Guests are invited to cook. Recipes are provided, so that visitors can turn what the land offered that week into a meal. It’s a small shift, but it changes the feeling of travel: not only eating local, but cooking with the farm’s harvest.

What makes this a best practice is the link between tourism and the countryside. A meaningful part of each stay supports the farm’s transition work from industrial cultivation to a sustainable one. Guests can also join farm walks, tastings and small gatherings. In the end, travellers leave rested, and more connected to the land that feeds them.
