Take a country drive through Austria’s pear region

Perry Road (Moststraße)- The orchard route with a local taste
In Lower Austria’s Mostviertel, the landscape is full of pear trees. Long rows of orchards shape the hills and the view from the road. For generations, this has been perry country and the drink is more than a taste. It’s part of local identity.
The Perry Road (Moststraße) turns that identity into a journey. It connects producers, farms and small businesses so that visitors can follow the story from tree to glass. Tastings, workshops and seasonal events make it easy to meet the people behind the product and understand the place through something simple and local.
Since 2002, the Moststraße Tourism Association has helped coordinate projects that keep value in the region. Perry is produced and marketed locally, supporting small farmers and craftspeople and strengthening local entrepreneurship. At the same time, the landscape is actively cared for. Traditional pear varieties are replanted through tree-planting and biodiversity projects, keeping the orchards healthy and the region distinctive.
A highlight is the “Day of the Perry”, when locals and visitors come together for tastings, culture and hands-on activities that celebrate the orchards and the traditions around them.
Tourism keeps the route alive. When visitors choose local tastings, events and producers, their spending stays in the region. This supports the people, the craft and the orchard landscape that make the Perry Road worth the journey.
