The Sea for All – A swim made possible

For many travellers, the best moment in Greece is the simplest one: the sea. A walk to the water. A first swim. However, for people with mobility limitations, that “simple moment” is often blocked by sand, steps, and a lack of support.

SEATRAC changes that story. Developed by TOBEA, it is an assistive technology that enables independent and safe access to the sea. Installed in coastal communities across Greece and beyond, it gives people the opportunity to enter the water autonomously with dignity, comfort, and confidence.

What makes SEATRAC a best practice is that it doesn’t stop at equipment. It builds a habit in destinations: beaches that welcome everyone. Local communities take an active role, including volunteer teams that help maintain and promote the installations, like the Volunteer Team in Katerini. This creates local pride and a culture of care around public spaces.

And tourism is part of what keeps it going. Visitor demand supports local businesses, encourages municipalities to maintain the systems, and helps extend the season by welcoming more people for longer.

In the end, SEATRAC turns a swim into something bigger. It makes the sea feel shared as a place of freedom and belonging, open to all again.
