Discover Baltic beyond summer

Light in the Dark – Turning the off-season into a reason of opportunity
While summer brings visitors to its beaches and islands, autumn, winter and spring reveal a quieter side of the country. Along nearly 3,800 kilometers of coastline and more than 2,000 islands, travellers discover forests painted in autumn colours, migrating birds crossing the Baltic skies, frozen seascapes, traditional smoke saunas and local flavours inspired by the changing seasons.
The Light in the Dark initiative encourages visitors to embrace these quieter months instead of following the summer crowds. Hiking the Baltic Coastal and Forest Trails, spotting wildlife in national parks, joining local food experiences or relaxing in centuries-old sauna traditions allows travellers to experience Estonia at a slower, more authentic pace.
Behind these experiences is a strong network of destinations and small tourism businesses working together to create year-round opportunities. By developing seasonal products and promoting travel beyond the peak months, they help spread visitor flows more evenly while strengthening local economies across coastal communities and islands. Tourism becomes a way to celebrate the destination’s natural rhythm rather than compete with it. Visitors experience Estonia differently, local businesses benefit from a longer season, and communities remain vibrant throughout the year. Light in the Dark shows that some of the most memorable journeys happen when the crowds have gone home, proving that tourism can create greater value not by attracting more visitors at the busiest time, but by inspiring people to discover a destination in every season.
